Siding

Siding is your home’s rain coat. Done right, it sheds water, handles Missouri’s swings from summer heat to hard freezes, and makes the house look good for decades. Done wrong, it traps moisture against the sheathing until the wall rots from the inside. RossBuilt installs and repairs siding with the same attention to the layers you never see as to the finish you do.

Siding services

  • Full siding replacement
  • Vinyl siding, including insulated vinyl
  • Fiber cement siding (such as James Hardie)
  • Engineered wood siding (such as LP SmartSide)
  • Storm damage and spot repairs, including color-matching where possible
  • Soffit, fascia and trim wrap
  • Rotted sheathing and framing repair found during tear-off

Choosing a siding material

Vinyl is the most budget-friendly and needs very little upkeep. Modern profiles and thicker panels look far better than the thin vinyl of the past, and insulated vinyl adds some energy efficiency and dent resistance.

Fiber cement is heavy, rigid and noncombustible. It holds paint well, stands up to hail better than most vinyl and gives a crisp, painted-wood look.

Engineered wood offers a real wood look with treated, impact-resistant panels that are lighter and easier to work than fiber cement.

We will walk you through cost, look and maintenance for each so you can pick what fits your house and budget.

What goes behind the siding matters most

On a full replacement we strip the old siding, inspect the sheathing and replace anything soft. Then comes a continuous weather-resistive barrier, flashing tape around windows and doors, kick-out flashing where roofs meet walls, and proper clearances at grade and rooflines. Those details are what keep water out of the wall cavity, and they are where a lot of siding jobs cut corners.

Signs it is time for new siding

  • Cracked, warped, loose or missing panels
  • Soft spots, rot or swelling at the bottom of walls
  • Peeling paint inside near exterior walls, or mold in wall cavities
  • Hail holes or dents across a whole side of the house
  • Fading that makes the house look tired

Pair new siding with window and door replacement so the flashing ties together, or see all of our exterior services.
